UCI points from Danilith Nokere Koerse 1.1
Kathrin Schweinberger 11. and Kirstie van Haaften 14. in the huge pelotonsprint of the first women Nokere Koerse!
Health Mate Ladies Team raced the 1e Danilith Nokere Koerse WE 1.1 on the 20th of March. In the first women edition of this prestigious classic race, our riders performed a fantastic team work. The tactic was to protect 2 top-talented young sprinters: the 22-year-old Austrian Kathrin Schweinberger and 20-year-old Dutch European Track Champion Kirstie van Haaften.
Kirstie van Haaften: ” I was really motivated for this race and the legs felt very good. Grateful to our Caretaker Serge Van Assche! 🙂 We worked together and performed strong as a team, the communication was perfect. The last lap was hectic. I was not in the best position to start the final sprint but still performed my best result ever on a 1.1 UCI race. Gives great power and motivation to the next hard spring classic races!”
“I am happy that I took some UCI points, but my position for the sprint could have been better.” – says Kathrin Schweinberger. “I loved the first edition of Danilith Nokere Koerse for Women and I absolutely look forward to take this challenge next year.”
Sports Director Patrick Van Gansen concludes optimistic after Nokere Koerse: “Our riders competed the total race on the front, very active and attacking. In the last kilometers our young sprinters were unfortunately closed in and not in best position to do the perfect peloton sprint. Nevertheless, in a world top field and among mainly the best sprinters of women cycling, 11th and 14th place are beautiful from young riders like Kirstie and Kathrin. Very promising for the future and I am pleased with our team work! The rest will follow.” – says Patrick Van Gansen.
The next World Tour race is Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne, 28 March!
