First race – First UCI points!
Sara Mustonen sprints to top 10 in the one-day-race of Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana Feminas UCI 1.2!
A fantastic result for Health Mate Ladies Team from the very first UCI race this season in Spain. A strong field did not stop our riders to get a top 10 place and win the first UCI points of 2019 in the early season.
Our Swedish captain Sara Mustonen about the race:
“Vuelta Valencia was a flat race, we expected a peloton sprint. With over 41 km / h average speed it was a very fast and technical race. I was unsure to be there for the sprint at the end but we communicated very well with my teammates. In the local laps with a technical finish I felt good, because it was mostly about positioning – where I have a great experience at. I was satisfied with the team racing together for the first time. I felt my teammates pay attention to, me and they were there for me. The final was quite chaotic and tricky. So, there was no possibility to do a lead-out.
At the last 400 meters I got stuck on other riders wheels, nearly crashed. Considering this chaos I feel good with the 9th place.
For the next race – 4-day-race Setmana Cicilista Valenciana – it will be a great learning experience and to see how far we come in a really strong field. This early in the season, in our second race I do not want to have too high expectations. We still are getting to know each other but I see that everyone is motivated and ready to race. I experience a very positive mentality in Health Mate Ladies Team and looking forward to our first stage race together.”
