Volta Limburg blog by Flavia
It was quite a lovely change from the “city of Antwerp” to the quiet surroundings of Valkenburg. Despite the usual traffic leaving Belgium, driving through the rolling hills as we approached the Hotel/Camp site we were staying was quite a site for sore eyes!!
It as lush, quaint, green and who knew that Holland could actually have that many hills!!
We felt so lucky to have stayed at this amazing place. Its a campground in the heart of the hills of Valkenburg, the location was incredible, and so quite I didn’t even need my earplugs.
We had time to preview some of the volta limburg course, and then returned to our bungalow for for pre race dinner meal. It was perfect place to stay, we were only 30 minutes drive form the race start.
Race day we had our “brekky” (breakfast) and packed up the car to leave for the race. Once there, we had a pretty chill pre race meeting. Talked over a few scenarios that could happen, got our legs done with some QM pre race oil, loaded our pockets with UP energy bars and gels, as well as our bottles. I was particularly excited to try out the Vredestein tires for the first time . The weather was finally cooperating this time around. So, needless to say we were all thankful for that!!
It was a rolling course and really beautiful as well. The vibe in Limburg was awesome, I am surprised this race is not on the UCI calender yet. We learned a lot as a team on this race. I hope we can build and improve on it. In the end we worked really hard to put our fast punch packed Austrian in a good position at the finish where she managed to get 8th!!
